October 10, New Adventures in Cape Town

Our 2 hour flight from Joberg to Cape Town left at 11:00 this morning.  It took about 2 1/2 hours after we landed to pick up luggage, get our rental car (Hyundai xi35), and drive the 45 minute route to our destination.  Tom did a great job adjusting to driving on the left side of the streets from the right side of the car.  We are in Fish Hoek, Cape Town at a lodge called Dunvegan.  It's wonderful!  We have the top (3rd) floor with two separate rooms sharing a kitchen, sitting area and a balcony that overlooks the mountain behind that is covered in proteas that are in full bloom right now, which of course brings in the birds.   The owners are very welcoming and helpful.  Our plan is to sleep in tomorrow and enjoy a cup of coffee on the deck in the morning with binoculars in hand.  Then we'll visit Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden, the most famous of gardens in South Africa, and hopefully drive out to the cape in the afternoon.
Photos are of Steve, Tom & Priscilla on the deck at Dunvegan Guest House, a Malachite Sunbird on protea flowers just off of our deck, and a better look at the protea flowers.
