October 21, Not Our Best Day In South Africa

We began the day with an amazing breakfast of ostrich egg and ostrich bacon, along with 3 different kinds of warm home-made breads - and fresh fruit.  Afraid it went a bit downhill from there though.  Tom went out to pack up the car and found a flat tire, which he had changed before I even realized something was going on.  We got the tire fixed very promptly in the next town though.  Then, when we arrived at the Hertz counter in George, S. Africa, they informed us the only car they had to trade us with was a manual Volkswagon van. We decided we didn't care to drive around an 8 passenger vehicle for another week and a half, so we kept our original vehicle, cracked windshield and all.  And then when we arrived in Nature's Valley and checked in to the B&B I had reserved, we decided it wasn't a place we cared to sleep in.  😝  We spent the next hour searching the roads of Nature's Valley for a cleaner B&B, and found one that fit our requirements.  Phew!  But no internet here, so we'll see when I can post to the blog next.  So, not much birding or sightseeing today.  We are within a block of the Indian Ocean now and tomorrow should bring some good birding in the forested National Park that is very close by.
Photos are of a Pied Starling and a Hadeda Ibis.
