Wow, we all slept SO good last night here at the guest house where we're staying in Fish Hoek, Cape Town! We headed to our deck first thing this morning (about 6:00) to check out the birds in the finbos habitat of Table Mountain Natural Area which lies directly behind Dunvegan Guest House. We had numerous birds, but the special treat was when our host, Peter, brought us cappuccinos to enjoy while birding on the deck. If anyone visits Cape Town, Dunvegan Lodge is a must-stay place! Peter and Sylvia are the most wonderful hosts. They brought us a bottle of South African wine the first evening, and then fresh milk for coffee, fruit and biscuits for our breakfast tomorrow. (It is supposedly a self-catering guest house).
We spent this morning at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens - and could have spent the entire day. Beautiful gardens!!! This afternoon we drove out to the Cape of Good Hope, the furthest SW point of Africa. What beautiful scenery and landscapes! On the way back to Fish Hoek, we just HAPPENED to find some African Penguins. We had some light rain last evening, but today was a beautiful sunny 75* day.
The first two photos were taken at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, a Cape Spurfowl, a Spotted Eagle Owl, proof that we really were at the Cape of Good Hope, and an African Penguin.
Really enjoying this journey with you! Excited to see the rest of the journey unfold!!!
